These are links that point from one domain to another. When considering your site’s backlinks, you’re looking at links from other sites to your own. Backlinks give a site or webpage most of its authority and are therefore valuable. Not all backlinks are created equal, as various factors can influence their quality and strength.

When a website visitor leaves without visiting any other page than the one they landed on.

Also known as web crawler, a bot is software that runs automated tasks over the internet. Bots perform simple and repetitive tasks at a much faster rate than humans.

Bot Traffic

When bots crawl a site, they can appear as users, and this can lead to some of the traffic data being attributed to bots.

Branded Keyword

A keyword that includes your business brand name or part of it. For example, searching for ‘Screaming frog web crawler’ is a branded keyword, whereas ‘web crawler’ is not.

Beta

An unfinished or incomplete but functional version of software, often released in a ‘beta phase’ to ‘beta users’ for testing its functionality.

Beta User

Someone who uses the beta version of software, often eager to try the latest technology to help improve their skills or knowledge.

A navigational tool that helps users navigate a website, usually in the form of a series of clickable text links at the top of a page that shows the location of the page within the site’s structure.

Broken Links

Links that lead to an inaccessible page or resource. These should be avoided as they can lead to users leaving the site entirely.
